The new United Airlines named Continental veteran Dave Hilfman senior vice president of worldwide sales, The Beat reported Wednesday. Other Continental execs chosen for the senior leadership team, according to a company memo, include Mark Bergsrud as SVP of marketing, Leon Kinloch as SVP of pricing/revenue management and Greg Hart as SVP for network planning/scheduling. Three more Continental people were named senior vice presidents, while seven United executives obtained SVP roles in airport operations, technical operations, systems operations control, labor relations, loyalty business, corporate strategy and alliances. Reporting to Hilfman in sales would be Charles Duncan (Europe, Middle East, India and Africa sales) and John Slater (Americas sales) from Continental and United's James Mueller for Pacific sales. United and Continental expect their proposed merger to close on Oct. 1.

Southwest Airlines through a proposed deal with United and Continental would obtain at Newark slots for 18 daily roundtrip flights. According to Southwest, Newark services would begin in March 2011. Service specifics "have not yet been determined," and the deal is "contingent upon the closing of the proposed Continental and United airlines' merger by Nov. 30, 2010, and certain governmental approvals." To be leased by Continental and United as a remedy for competition concerns, the slots "are spread throughout the day and would allow Southwest the ability to integrate Newark service conveniently into its extensive national route network," according to a Southwest statement. In the New York metropolitan area, the airline currently serves LaGuardia and Islip Macarthur airports.

By scanning "major consumer Web sites," the service can "identify rates that are lower than the negotiated corporate rate" at a client's preferred properties, according to Uversa.

The U.S. General Services Administration posted the final solicitation for its next-generation E-Gov Travel System. ETS2 is expected to provide travel management services covering more than 70 federal agencies. Proposals are due Oct. 6. Contracts would have a base period of three years with three optional four-year extensions. "The purpose of this solicitation is to provide a vehicle for all government agencies to obtain end-to-end travel management service that automates and consolidates the federal travel process in a secure Web-centric environment," according to the government's summary. "ETS2 includes all aspects of official federal business travel, including travel planning, authorization, reservations, ticketing, fulfillment, expense reimbursement and travel management service, which serves as the foundation for achieving federal goals for government-wide travel management." The posted solicitation was originally scheduled for release in January.

Mega corporate travel agency transactions through ARC grew 9.9 percent in July year over year, marking a ninth consecutive month of growth. Though the increase was the smallest since January 2010, it was a higher rate than for all other agency categories measured by ARC.

Tzell Travel Group plans to provide customers the Sabre TripCase mobile messaging and itinerary application. The TripCase solution consolidates travel itineraries and also enables agencies to "send free updates, notifications and alerts to travelers throughout their entire trip," the companies noted in a press statement. TripCase is available free to iPhone, Blackberry, Android and Windows Mobile device users, and through most mobile Web browsers.

The conveniences already are offered at 70 percent of Radisson properties.
